The Salt Lake Home Builders Association is a not-for-profit volunteer organization. Our membership is comprised of builders and associates who lead and promote the industry. Our purpose is to protect the free enterprise system, promote the American dream of home ownership and provide opportunities to our members. The SLHBA represents the interests of developers, remodelers, home builders and home manufacturers, as well as suppliers, subcontractors, professionals, manufacturers, utilities and local services and activities.
Why join the Salt Lake Home Builders Association? That is a reasonable question, essentially asked by all candidates and new members of the SLHBA. When a company joins the Salt Lake Home Builders Association, they actually join three, The National Association of Home Builders, the Utah Home Builders Association and the Salt Lake Home Builders Association. Each Association has it unique mission, agenda and services that they provide to the member; yet many issues and items are directed from National through the state and local affiliates. These Associations are all non-profit and have the sole purpose of serving and acting in the best interest of their members.
The National Association includes 235,000 members and is headquartered in Washington D.C. The collective HBA’s not only represent homebuilders, but approximately 2/3rd of its members are what is referred to as “Associate Members.” These Associate Members are members that provide products or services to homebuilders. They sell lumber, windows, appliances, etc., or offer services such title insurance and mortgage finance.
Some of the different areas the local HBA’s join efforts on providing to members is:
• Political representation
• Educational
• Networking Members
• Public Awareness & Promotions
• Cost Efficiencies and Member to Member Discounts
• Charity and Philanthropy
Through the efforts and diligence of the Home Builders of this country, home ownership has flourished; it is just under 68%, slightly higher in Utah. Without the efforts of the National, State and local Home Builders Associations, it is certain that our costs would increase with the ultimate result that affordability to our consumer and the rate of home ownership would suffer.
And lastly, to quote President Theodore Roosevelt, “Every man owes part of his time and money to the business or industry in which he is engaged. No man has a moral right to withhold his support form an organization that is striving to improve conditions within his sphere.” There is no better place to “pay back” your industry than your affiliation and active participation with the Salt Lake Home Builders Association
